About Coach Behan: Sean Behan enters his third season as head coach of the Utica University men’s lacrosse program after previously serving on the Pioneers’ coaching staff. A proud Utica alumnus, Behan brings a deep understanding of the program’s history, culture, and championship aspirations.
Behan originally joined the Utica coaching staff in the summer of 2015, assisting with all facets of the program including scouting, recruiting, practice and game preparation, and day-to-day operations. His transition from student-athlete to coach has allowed him to impact the program from multiple perspectives.
A 2015 graduate of Utica, Behan earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice – Economic Crime Investigation. He later completed his master’s degree in Financial Crime and Compliance Management in August 2018.
As a four-year letter winner for the Pioneers, Behan played in all 48 games of his collegiate career, making 17 starts while contributing to a strong defensive unit. He competed at several positions including long-stick midfielder and close defenseman, and served as a key member of the man-down unit. Behan helped lead the 2013 Pioneers to a then school-record nine victories and the program’s first-ever appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. He concluded his career with 25 ground balls, 20 caused turnovers, and three goals on just four career shots.
A native of Syracuse, New York, Behan starred at Jamesville-DeWitt High School, where he was part of the 2010 and 2011 NYS Class B State Championship lacrosse teams and concluded his senior season ranked No. 2 nationally. He was also the recipient of the Junior Coach’s Award (2009) and Player’s Sportsmanship Award (2010) in football, along with the Player’s Sportsmanship Award (2011) in lacrosse.
Now at the helm of his alma mater, Behan continues to build upon the strong foundation of Utica men’s lacrosse while developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
